Unit 9 "Our Day Out"
"Our Day Out"
Research:
For this unit we are looking into the play "Our Day Out" by Willy Russell which was published on the 28th December 1977. "Our Day Out" is a play about kids that live in Liverpool from a remedial class that are unleashed for a day's coach trip to Conway Castle in Wales, stopping off at a cafe, a zoo, a beach and a funfair.
Planning:
At the beginning we where given our scene and and our characters we did no do the whole play because it was to long. I was given the characters: Headmaster, Jimmy (who was one of the kids) and the zoo keeper. I was in scene 3, scene 29 and scene 32. All my characters where insignificant to the play that's why I was given 3. I played along side some characters like Briggs who was played by Mark, Ms Kay who was played by Hanna and Kevin how was played by Kenroy.
Problem Solving:
With this play we had so many problems to work out. The first thing was how would be perform the play because we are all in quarantine as there is a virus going around killing people and we might not be going back to school till next year. So we had to do online classes on Zoom and Google Meet, which lead to more problems because it was very laggy most people where missing there que to say there line because of there was a minute delay. A separate problem was that people where not coming on a the write time because they did not know or they where sleeping and for others there zoom or google meet was not working or there google classroom was not working which we got around that problem by sending them the link by messages, Snapchat, Instagram and WhatsApp.
Evaluation:
WWW:
- Everyone remembered there lines.
- Everyone read there lines at the right time when recorded.
- Majority of people came to the classes.
- Everyone could of used a lot more facial expressions.
- Everyone could have been more enthusiastic.
- Everyone could of read between the lines a lot more.
- Everyone should of turned up to class on time.
Production values:
In scene thirty-two, the beach scene the set should have towels (that people can get from there houses so we can borrow them because when why see people lying on the floor with towels they instantly think that is set on a beach) for people to sit on the sand with to prevent sand going into there trousers/skirts and, so the sand does not stick to them and make a mess on the coach when they have to leave because in coastal beaches there is not a lot of places to sit due to the lack of funding for the beach as not many people go there compared to other places like Blackpool.
Also, there should be a fish and chip shop (that can be made from cardboard or wood because our target audience would think that most people that go to coastal cities would eat fish in chip due to what we have seen in TV so it is to clarify to the audience where this is set ) for people to go to and eat because the most popular food to eat when in coastal cities in England is fish and chip due to how affordable they are as they most likely paid a lot of money for all the kids to come and visit the coast and, it is the number 1 food to eat in England.
Furthermore, there should also be pieces of litter scattered around the beach (which people can get by no throwing away recyclable materials for a day or two to make it more realistic because in this day and age there are no beaches in the world that have no litter) as most of the time people can't be bothered to through it away, they think they are cool by throwing litter on the floor or people accidentally litter on the floor while they walk along the beach and as I said before about the lack of funding for beaches like this, the government do not employee waste management and disposal technicians to clean the beaches.
